

Background
Before becoming a small business owner, Savage worked in providing social work and individual, group and family counseling services and custody and home studies for the Department of Human Services, Great River Mental Health Center, and a number of private counseling agencies.
She has used her experience to teach others. Savage also teaches Sociology, Social Problems and Marriage and Family Class at Muscatine Community College on a part time basis and has worked as an adjunct instructor at the College for 10 years.
Prior to running for the Iowa Senate, Savage was the past President of the Greater Muscatine Downtown Association and is currently co- President of the Muscatine County Arts Council, a member of the Muscatine Foster Care Review Board, Writers on the Avenue, and the League of Women Voters, Friends of Historic Preservation, PEO, Muscatine Symphony Board and Zion Lutheran Church. She also wrote a weekly newspaper column in the Muscatine Journal, called Downtown Dispatches and was co-host of the Coffee Club Talk Show with John Schwandke on the local radio station.
Savage and her husband, Tom, have been married for 42 years and have two grown sons and one granddaughter. They own Books n’ More, a bookstore in Muscatine as well as a family Century Farm in Salem, Iowa.
